Like Riding a Bike

11 Nov

Whoever coined the phrase “It’s just like riding a bike” was obviously not serious about their riding. Those who take their riding a bit more seriously than just a casual ride to the corner market (not to discount the joy and value of casual riding) know that time away from your two-wheeled friend does have a price. One cannot take time off and expect to continue from where you left off.

Mountain Biking Duxbury

6 Jul

On my way to the meeting spot I got a text from Chris, “Flat Tire”.

I called and made sure he was safe and wasn’t trying to change a tire in the middle lane of route 495. He assured me that he was, but that he was concerned about the other tires since his car was violently shaking from a bad rim (NOTE: the tire that blew was not on the bad rim).

Erick showed up at the parking lot shortly after I arrived. Meanwhile, I had been texting back and forth with Chris and he still hadn’t removed the bad tire due to frozen lug nuts. Since it was obvious that we had a while before Chris showed up, Erick and I opted for a warm-up ride around Round Pond.

Twenty minutes later I got another text from Chris, “Still trying to get the wheel off… the cops have arrived”

Pantscapade 2013 (10 Year Anniversary)

15 Dec

2013 is the 10 year anniversary of the first Pantscapade. I don’t recall the exact date, but it was September of 2003. Back then, a bunch of guys (Chris W, Arthur, Dan, Kevin, Chris H, and myself) went to Smugglers Notch, VT for a weekend to enjoy the outdoors and each others company.

This year, to celebrate the anniversary, we decided to go back. Unfortunately, only two of the original crew (Dan and me) and one more not so stranger to the group, but new to Smugglers (Erick) were able to make it. I did try to kidnap Chris W, from his place of work, on the way up. But, was unsuccessful as he took refuge among his elderly patients and female nurses. Good thing, since he obviously wouldn’t have been able to handle the manliness of the adventure.
